Courtney Study scattered five hits in a complete game as the New Palestine softball team downed Shelbyville 4-1 Thursday at Shelbyville. The fourth-ranked Dragons improved to 10-0 on the season and 4-0 in HHC play. Study allowed one earned run and struck out one in the victory. Allie Blum led an 11-hit attack, going 3-for-4, scoring twice and hitting a double and solo homer. Sydney Oliver was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Reese Rosenbaum was 2-for-3. Jersi Gross, Maddie Engle, Ella Holman and Paige Ernstes also had hits. Blum started the scoring by homering in the top of the first. Shelbyville answered with a leadoff homer, but that would be the Golden Bears' only offense. Study stranded two Golden Bears in the second and third, but she retired 12 of the last 13 she faced. In the third, Gross and Blum led off with hits. Oliver drove Gross home with a single and Blum scored on a wild pitch, putting the Dragons up 3-1. The Dragons added an insurance run in the seventh when Holman led off with a single, moved into scoring position on a groundout and scored on Oliver's single. The Dragons are next in action Monday at Franklin.
