The New Palestine tennis team finished second in Friday's Hancock County meet at Mt. Vernon, tallying 14 points. Mt. Vernon won the meet with 35 points, while the Dragons finished ahead of Greenfield-Central and Eastern Hancock. The Dragons placed four in the finals. At No. 2 singles, Bethany Blachly won 6-2, 7-6(0) over Eastern Hancock in the semis before falling 6-2, 6-1 to Mt. Vernon in the finals. At No. 3 singles, Maizy Haynes defeated Greenfield-Central's player 6-1, 6-0 before falling to MV 7-5, 6-4. Emily Appleby/Josephine Harvey won 6-1, 6-4 over Eastern Hancock in the semis before falling 6-2, 6-1 to MV in the finals at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2, Amelia Schneider/Riley Watts won 6-0, 6-2 over Greenfield-Central before falling 6-1, 6-4 to Mt. Vernon in the finals. At No. 1 singles, Kaitlyn Mitchell finished third. She dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Mt. Vernon in the semis before winning 6-0, 6-2 over G-C in the consolation round. The Dragons' JV also finished second, with Alyssa Appleby/Ellie Armstrong winning the title at No. 2 doubles. Sydney Walter finished second at No. 2 singles, as did Elliott Graham/Amelia Rojowski at No. 1 doubles. The Dragons are next in action Monday at Whiteland.
