Baseball completes sweep of Yorktown

Henry Thorpe threw a two-hit shutout Friday, leading the New Palestine baseball team to a 10-0 five-inning victory over Yorktown, sweeping their two-game conference series. The Dragons scored in three of their four at-bats, breaking the game open with a five-run, two-out rally in the third. NP took a 3-0 lead in the first, loading the bases on an error and two walks. Rigg Mahurin's sacrifice fly drove in the first run. Gavin Neal followed with a two-run triple. In the third, the Dragons put two runners on with two outs. A walk to Wyatt Mathies loaded the bases. Henry Thorpe helped his own cause with a two-run single on a 3-2 pitch. Nic Deering followed with an RBI double and Jacob Morris a two-run single. The Dragons added two more runs in the fourth. Neal hit a one-out double and scored on a triple by Mathies. A base hit by Henry Thorpe drove in the 10th run and activated the mercy rule. Thorpe set the Tigers down in order in the fifth to end the game. Yorktown had just three baserunners on Thorpe, with none getting past first base. He struck out five. Neal led the Dragons' 12-hit attack, going 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Three other players had two hits. Deering was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Morris was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Thorpe was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Jackson Kamp was 1-for-2 with a run, while Mathies was 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Hirschy was 1-for-2 with two runs. The Dragons are now 4-1 overall and 3-1 in HHC play. They next play Saturday at the Lebanon Invitational.
