Boys CC finishes third, girls fourth at Whiteland

The New Palestine cross country teams had a solid day at Saturday's Whiteland Invitational. The Dragons boys finished third in the 11-team event, while the girls placed fourth of 10. The Dragons boys tallied 68 places, finishing behind Whiteland (53) and Greenwood (56). The Dragons finished ahead of Rushville (103), Columbus East and Hauser (199) and five other teams. Jake Cooper led the Dragons with a sixth-place finish and a 5K time of 18:07.6. Cody Crawmer finished 10th (18:21.72), Gavin Smith 11th (18:22.06) and Jacob Collins 20th (18:42.94). Isaac Poetz was 21st (18:44.67). The Dragons girls tallied 96 places to finish fourth behind Greenwood (40), Eastern Greene (73) and Whiteland (86). The Dragons finished ahead of Columbus East (124), Rushville (148) and four other teams. Courtney Study led the Dragons with a seventh-place finish and a 5K time of 21:20.16. Alexis Baynes was 18th (22:32.4), Cami Massari 19th (22:34.42), Edie Schwarb 26th (23:07.83) and Amelia Stone 30th (23:32.32). The Dragons are next in action Saturday, Sept. 17 at the FlashRock Invitational at Northview Christian Church in Carmel.
