The New Palestine baseball team pounced early Tuesday and rolled to a 13-0 five-inning victory over Yorktown in a Hoosier Heritage Conference matchup. The Dragons improved to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the HHC with the road victory. The two teams play again at 6 p.m. Wednesday at NPHS, a game that will be broadcast at NewPalRadio.com. The Dragons pounced quickly, scoring three runs in the first, then exploding for seven in the second inning. After a long rain delay, they added three runs in the fifth to seal it. Jacob Morris led the Dragons' attack, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Jackson Kamp was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Rigg Mahurin (2-3, R, 2 RBI) and Michael Thorpe (2-3, RBI) also had two hits, leading a 15-hit attack. Adam Rickey (1-4, 2R), Nic Deering (1-2, 2R, HR, 2 RBI), Henry Thorpe (1-2, R), Ryan Haines (1-1, 2 RBI), Gavin Neal (1-4, 2 RBI) and Sean Young (1-1) all had hits for the Dragons. Michael Thorpe pitched five shutout innings, striking out eight and allowing five hits to earn the complete-game win. Kamp gave the Dragons a first-inning lead with a two-run double, followed by Rigg Mahurin's RBI hit. In the second, Morris drove in a run with a two-out single, but Deering followed by blasting a 2-2 pitch over the leftfield fence for a two-run homer, putting the Dragons up 6-0. The Dragons continued the inning and added four more runs. Hirschy walked, Kamp singled and Mahurin drove in the lead runner with a base hit. After a hit batter, Neal lined a two-run single to center, followed by an RBI hit from Michael Thorpe. In the fifth, the Dragons added three more runs, as Morris drove an RBI single to right, and later in the frame, Haines plated two runs with a two-out bases-loaded single.
