Track opens outdoor season at Chatard

The New Palestine track and field teams opened their outdoor seasons Saturday at the Chatard Invitational. Both teams finished fourth in the four-team event. The Dragons girls tallied 62 points, finishing behind Chatard (108), West Lafayette (90) and Cathedral (71). The Dragons boys tallied 46 points, finishing behind West Lafayette (114), Chatard (104) and Cathedral (69). The Dragons had three winners - Abby Journay won the high jump (4-10) for the girls. Colton Spears won the high jump (5-8) and Jake Cooper the 1600 (4:21.59) for the boys. Finishing second for the Dragons girls were Rylee Hurst in the 100 and Cami Massari in the 3200. Placing third were Hurst in the 400, Evelyn Kell in the 3200 and Cadyn Brown in the shot put. Individuals finishing fourth were Courtney Study in the 800 and 1600, Alaina Doran in the 100 hurdles, Rebecca Johnson in the pole vault and Brown in the discus. The Dragons' boys had one individual runner-up finish, from Quinn Crawmer in the pole vault. The 4x800 relay also finished second. Individuals placing third were Paxton Holmes in the 300 hurdles and Hayden Taylor in the high jump.
