Boys volleyball wins opener

The New Palestine boys volleyball team won its season opener Monday, beating Covenant Christian 25-23, 25-22, 24-26, 25-18. The Dragons rallied from big deficits in the first two sets, using a big run to rally back from 16-12 down in the first set, then again rallying after falling behind 7-1 in the second. They gradually pulled away in the latter stages of the fourth set to seal the victory. Daysen Wood and Jaxon Hinkle led the Dragons with 10 kills each. Chase Emberton had seven kills. Emberton also led the Dragons with four aces and five blocks. Wood had three blocks. Eli Martin tallied 19 digs, while Aaron Smith had 10. Kameron Engle tallied 30 assists. The Dragons (1-0) are next in action Tuesday at home against Southport.
