The New Palestine boys soccer team scored two early goals Tuesday and then poured in four more in the last 20 minutes of the second half to beat conference foe New Castle 6-1. The Dragons dominated the Trojans, allowing only two shots - one on frame - in the victory. The Dragons started on the front foot with a flurry of chances early. They broke through in the 10th minute, as Brendan Tanksley dribbled along the end line and fed a far-post cross to Cody Crawmer for a header past the New Castle keeper, giving the Dragons a 1-0 lead. Nine minutes later, Elliott Canova dribbled through several New Castle defenders to find himself alone in the box from 10 yards out. He buried it for his ninth goal of the season to extend the lead to 2-0. He nearly had another on a similar move to the same spot, but the New Castle keeper made the save seven minutes later. The Dragons continued to attack in the opening half, but New Castle's keeper was excellent in keeping the scoreline at a two-goal contest. The Dragons finally broke through for the third goal in the 62nd minute, as Canova ripped a shot far-post from the 18 for the brace to extend the lead to 3-0. Two minutes later, Cohen Wintin dribbled into the box, drew the keeper out and slid the ball across to Daniel Davis for the fourth goal. Chase Martin fed Cody Crawmer atop the 6 for another header goal that gave Crawmer a brace in the 71st minute. After New Castle scored on a free kick two minutes later, Alex Richwine scored his second goal in as many games in the final minute on a feed from Cole Christopher to push the scoreline to 6-1. The Dragons improved to 5-3 with the victory, snapping a two-game skid. They are 1-2 in Hoosier Heritage Conference play. There was no JV game. The Dragons next play Thursday at Shelbyville in another HHC contest.
