Gymnastics wins sectional championship

The New Palestine gymnastics team claimed the sectional championship Saturday, scoring 100.575 to narrowly defeat Connersville and claim the championship. The Dragons won their second consecutive sectional title and 12th in the program's history. NP finished .05 points ahead of Connersville, scoring 100.575 to the Spartans' 100.525. New Castle was third at 96.225. All three will advance to Friday's Franklin Central regional at The Gymnastics Company. Lynzie Stiller won the all-around with a score of 34.925. Olivia Frank finished fourth (33.525). Frank and Stiller went 1-2 in the floor exercise, with Frank tallying a 9.35 and Stiller 9.15. Chiara Polo was the Dragons' third scorer, placing 10th (8.6). On uneven bars, Stiller tied for the sectional title with an 8.4. Frank was seventh (7.55). Rebecca Johnson and Polo were the Dragons third scorers, each tallying 7.1. On balance beam, Stiller was second (8.625) and Frank third (8.4). Rebecca Johnson was ninth (7.8). Stiller was sixth on vault (8.75). Johnson (8.5) and Polo (8.35) were the Dragons' other scorers.
