The New Palestine boys swimming and diving team repeated as sectional champion, tallying 396.5 points to beat Greenfield-Central (322), Richmond (278) and seven other teams. Cade Rodgers won the individual sectional championship in diving with a score of 318.85. He will be the lone Dragon to advance past the sectional, as he will compete in Tuesday's diving regional. Aidan Stephens finished fifth (270.60). The Dragons' top swimming finish came from the 200 medley relay of Dawson Lynch, Aidan Kingery, Jake Myers and Liam Fuller, who swam 1:41.13 to break their own school record and finish second. Lynch, Fuller, Ashton Turner and Dontae Thompson also finished second in the 200 free relay in 1:32.61. In the 400 free relay, James Watson, Myers, Turner and Thompson finished third (3:27.25). Myers also had the one of the top two individual swimming finishes, tying for third in the 100 butterfly (55.53). Lynch was sixth (56.43) and Luke Appleby ninth. Also finishing third was Blake Hurst in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.39), with Kingery fourth (1:01.65) and Quinn Crawmer 10th. The Dragons' depth led to the victory. NP scored three individuals in every swimming event but one, and had at least two swimmers in the finals of every event but two. Watson was fourth in the 200 free (1:53.86), with Karter McNeil 10th and Thompson 13th. Turner was fourth in the 100 freestyle (51.33), with Thompson seventh (51.83) and Fuller eighth (54.43). In the 200 IM, Reese Cox was fifth (2:08.47), Blake Hurst sixth (2:08.53) and Appleby eighth (2:13.35). Watson was fifth in the 500 free (5:12.27). McNeil placed 12th. In the 100 backstroke, Lynch was fifth (57.65) and Myers eighth (59.72). Cox finished ninth. Fuller (23.49) and Turner (23.51) were sixth and seventh in the 50 free, with Kingery 11th.
