Boys swim sets two records in prelims

The New Palestine boys swimming team broke two school records Thursday in the sectional preliminaries at New Palestine. The 200 medley relay team of Dawson Lynch, Aidan Kingery, Jake Myers and Liam Fuller broke the school record with a swim of 1:41.88, earning the top seed in Saturday's finals. Myers also broke the school record in the 100 butterfly, also earning the top seed in Saturday's finals after posting a time of 54.46. The top eight swimmers from each event advance to the finals, while positions 9-16 from Thursday's prelims will compete in the consolation finals. Diving begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, with the swimming finals at 1 p.m. at the NPHS Natatorium. The Dragons advanced swimmers to the finals in every event, and advanced all three individuals to either the final or consolation swim in every event but one. In the 200 free, James Watson finished fourth to advance to the finals (1:53.83). Dontae Thompson (ninth) and Karter McNeil (11th) earned Saturday swims in the consolation. In the 200 IM, the Dragons will have three swimmers in the finals. Reese Cox finished fourth (2:07.58), Luke Appleby seventh (2:10.04) and Blake Hurst eighth (2:10.80). The Dragons also advanced three to the finals in the 100 freestyle. Thompson was third (51.38), Ashton Turner sixth (51.74) and Fuller eighth (52.78). The Dragons have two in the finals in the 50 free - Fuller was fourth (23.27) and Turner sixth (23.44). Kingery was 10th. Myers will be joined by Lynch in the 100 butterfly final, as Lynch finished sixth (55.68) in the prelims. Appleby will swim in the consolation heat after finishing ninth. In the 100 backstroke, Lynch finished fourth (56.94) and Myers eighth (59.90) to advance to the final, while Cox was ninth. Kingery was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.27), with Blake Hurst third (1:01.42) and will advance to the final. Quinn Crawmer was 11th. In the 500 free, Watson finished fifth and will advance to the final (5:13.19). McNeil was 13th and will swim in the consolation. Lynch, Fuller, Turner and Thompson were second in the 200 free relay (1:34.19). Watson, Myers, Turner and Thompson were third in the 400 free relay (3:29.26).
