Tull wins title, girls swimmers sectional runners-up

Isabelle Tull won the sectional championship in diving, leading the New Palestine girls swimming and diving team to a second-place finish in Saturday's New Palestine sectional. The Dragons scored 269 points to finish second to Greenfield-Central (537). NP finished ahead of Mt. Vernon (265), New Castle (210), Richmond (175) and six other teams in the 11-team field. Tull scored 359.65 to win the diving competition by more than 40 points. Lauren Appleby finished seventh and Katie Kelley ninth for the Dragons. The Dragons also finished second in the 200 free relay, as Sullie Leavell, Adrianna Huston, Lillie Abernathy and Chloe Siler swam 1:43.28. The same quartet was also second in the 400 free relay, setting a school record with a time of 3:49.84. Siler finished third in the 50 freestyle (25.07), with Leavell sixth (25.51). Abernathy was fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.92), with Hanna Stone sixth (1:20.03). In the 100 butterfly, Leavell was fifth (1:04.48) and Abernathy sixth (1:05.31). In the 200 free relay, Ireland Armstrong was ninth and Ansley Tucker 15th. Rachel Hamilton was ninth, Emma Snyder 11th and Isabelle SInger 12th in the 200 IM. Armstrong was ninth, Singer 13th and Tucker 14th in the 500 free. Hamilton finished 10th, Arianna Tull 14th and Emma Snyder 15th in the 100 backstroke. Cadyn Brown was 15th and Stone 16th in the 100 free. Tull will advance to Tuesday's diving regional and compete for a spot in the State Finals.
