Wrestlers finish second in sectional

The New Palestine boys wrestling team had three champions and advanced 11 wrestlers to next week's Perry Meridian regional from Saturday's sectional at Shelbyville. Gunner Butt (126), Cole Vandygriff (132) and Shaun Glass (215) all won sectional titles, leading the Dragons toa second-place finish. NP scored 232 points, finishing behind Warren Central (265). At 126, Butt pinned Scecina's Jackson White and won a major decision over Franklin Central's Demario Ezelle before pinning Warren Central's Terry Easley in the final. At 132, Vandygriff advanced to the finals with two falls over Shelbyville's Kameron Timberlake and Greenfield-Central's Cade Zuber. He beat Warren Central's Donald Bowie 7-5 in the final. At 215, Glass won with falls over Scecina's Owen Wienzierl and Purdue Poly's Antonio Cisneros-Rodriguz. In the final he won a 13-1 major decision over Greenfield-Central's Tristen Lanum. Five more Dragons advanced to the finals and placed second - Blake Doss (106), Peyton Hornsby (138), Bryce Doss (144), Gabe Flick (165), Colin Whetsel (190). Placing third were Landon Sranger at 113 and Gavin Wilcher at 175. Jaedyn Jeffries finished fourth at 157. They will also all advance to the regional. Also competing for the Dragons were Elijah Alonso, who was fifth at 150, and William Glesing, who was sixth at 285.
