Swimmers win Warren Central Invitational

The New Palestine swimming and diving teams defended their titles in the Warren Central Invitational Saturday, The Dragons girls tallied 548 points to win in a 16-team field, with Cathedral (361), Ben Davis (278), Park Tudor (208) and Warren Central (194) rounding out the top five. The Dragons boys won with 563 points, beating out Cathedral (316), Ben Davis (242.5), Lawrence Central (206.5) and Ritter (202) in a 19-team field. The Dragons girls won five events. Sullie Leavell and Chloe Siler finished 1-2 in the 50 free, with Leavell's winning time at 26.73. Adrianna Huston also posted a victory for the Dragons in the 100 free, with a time of 59.55. Rachel Hamilton was fourth and Hanna Stone seventh. Lillie Abernaty also posted a victory for the Dragons in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.21. Stone was sixth and Madi Bard seventh. The Dragons' quartet of Leavell, Siler, Abernathy and Huston won the 200 free relay in 1:51.15, with Hamilton, Emma Snyder, Emily Appleby and Cadyn Brown third. The Dragons also won the 400 free relay, with Huston, Siler, Leavell and Abernathy swimming 4:06.36. Brown, Armstrong, Stone and Bard were fourth. The 200 medley relay team of Hamilton, Bard, Ireland Armstrong and Appleby was second. In the 200 free, Huston was second, Ansley Tucker sixth and Arianna Tull seventh. Lillie Abernathy finished second in the 200 IM, with Emma Snyder fourth and Armstrong fifth. Armstrong was third in the 500 free, with Isabelle Singer sixth and Tucker seventh. In the 100 backstroke, Hamilton was fourth, Snyder fifth and Tull sixth. In the 100 butterfly, Leavell was fifth and Chloe Siler sixth. The Dragons boys swept the relays and won four events. The 200 medley relay team of Dawson Lynch, Aidan Kingery, Jake Myers and Liam Fuller won in 1:47.66. Quinn Crawmer, Blake Hurst, Luke Appleby and Kaden Curren were third. The Dragons also won the 200 free relay, with Dontae Thompson, Fuller, Ashton Turner and James Watson swimming 1:37.01. The Dragons finished the meet with a victory in the 400 free relay, with Watson, Turner, Lynch and Thompson swimming 3:39.58. Karter McNeil, Appleby, Crawmer and Reese Cox were third. Watson and McNeil placed 1-2 in the 500 free, with Watson's winning time 5:19.47. Crawmer was fifth. In the 100 breaststroke, Blake Hurst placed second and Aidan Kingery third, with Reese Cox finishing sixth. In the 200 IM, Myers was second, Cox fourth and Appleby sixth. In the 100 free, Turner was second and Thompson fifth. Kingery placed eighth. In the 100 backstroke, Lynch placed third, Hurst fourth and Appleby seventh. In the 200 free, Watson was third and McNeil fourth. Turner was third and Thompson fourth in the 50 free. In the 100 butterfly, Lynch was fourth and Myers placed fifth. The Dragons girls are next in action Feb. 1 when they host the sectional prelims, with the finals Feb. 3. The boys next compete Jan. 29 in a triangular meet with Roncalli at Greenwood.
