The New Palestine girls basketball team posted its third straight victory Thursday, leading from wire-to-wire in a 61-36 victory over Waldron. Three Dragons scored in double figures, as Allie Blum scored 23, Vivian Miller 12 and Kenna Tweedy 11 to lead a balanced attack. The Dragons improved to 11-9 on the season. The Dragons showed strong balance in the opening quarter, as five different players scored as NP built a 14-4 lead. Miller put the Dragons on the board with a first-minute 3-pointer and NP never trailed from there. Kylee Beranek led a run that bridged the quarter, scoring five points to help key an 11-0 spurt that put the Dragons up 21-4. Tweedy drilled two 3-pointers in the run. In the second quarter, Blum scored 10 points and Tweedy hit two 3-pointers as NP scored 22 points and built a 36-19 halftime lead. Blum added 10 points in the third, while Miller hit a 3-pointer and scored five points to push the edge to 51-23, as NP held the Mohawks to four points for the second time in three quarters. In the fourth, Sadey Hughbanks scored six points to help salt the game away, while the Dragons used the opportunity to give players extended minutes. In addition to the three double-figure scorers, Hughbanks scored eight points, Beranek five and McKenzie Hacker two. Natalie Sevier and Ella Holman both had strong rebounding games. Alivia Fischer led Waldron with 11 points off the bench. Freshman Grace Fischer added 10. The Dragons won the JV game 39-13. The Dragons are next in action Tuesday at home against Greensburg in Senior Night.
