Boys swimming wins HHC title

The New Palestine boys swimming and diving team won the Hoosier Heritage Conference title Saturday, tallying 377 points to beat Yorktown (372) and Greenfield-Central (318). Mt. Vernon (255), Pendleton Heights (229), Delta (180), New Castle (165) and Shelbyville (120) took the remaining positions. The Dragons started the meet with a title and a record, as the 200 medley relay team of Dawson Lynch, Aidan Kingery, Jake Myers and Liam Fuller broke the school record with a swim of 1:42.61. The relay team was one of two HHC champions on the day. In the 100 breaststroke, Kingery won another title with a swim of 1:03.48. Blake Hurst made it a 1-2 Dragons finish with a runner-up swim of 1:03.57. Also finishing in the top three were Aidan Stephens, who was third in diving, and James Watson, who was third in the 200 freestyle. In the 100 butterfly, Myers finished fourth and Lynch sixth. Lynch (4th) and Myers (8th) also had top finishes in the 100 backstroke. In the 200 IM, Reese Cox finished sixth and Luke Appleby seventh. Ashton Turner finished sixth and Liam Fuller eighth in the 50 freestyle. In the 100 freestyle, Dontae Thompson was sixth and Turner seventh. Watson finished sixth in the 500 freestyle, while Karter McNeil was seventh in the 200 freestyle. In the 200 free relay, Turner, Kingery, Fuller and Thompson finished fourth. Watson, Turner, Lynch and Thompson were fourth in the 400 free relay. The title was the second in school history for the Dragons, and their first since 2010.
