Boys wrestling goes 2-1, finishes ninth at State Duals

The New Palestine boys wrestling team went 2-1 Saturday at the IHSWCA Team State Duals, placing ninth in the Class 3A field. The Dragons dropped their first-round match 32-31 to East Noble. Gunner Butt (132), Bryce Doss (144), Shaun Glass (215) and William Glesing (285) won by fall. Peyton Hornsby won a major decision at 138, while Blake Doss won a decision at 103. In the next round, the Dragons downed Fort Wayne Snider 45-27. Hornsby (138), Bryce Doss (144), Glass (215) and Glesing (285) won by fall. Colin Whetsel (190) won by tech fall. Blake Doss (103), Butt (126), Elijah Alonso (150) and Gavin Wilcher (175) won major decisions. In the ninth-place match, the Dragons beat Hobart 47-24. Landon Stranger (113), Hornsby (138), Bryce Doss (144) and Whetsel (190) won by fall. Jaedyn Jeffries (157) and Glass (215) won by tech fall. Blake Doss (106) won by major decision. Butt (126), Alonso (150) and Gabe Flick (165) won by decision. The Dragons are now 15-4 in dual meets this season. They are next in action Wednesday at home against Lawrence North.
