The New Palestine boys soccer team controlled possession through much of the game Tuesday, but conceded multiple counterattack goals in a 4-1 loss to Mt. Vernon at Kelso Stadium. The Dragons conceded five minutes in on a long shot that dipped under the bar. Twelve minutes later, a one-two pass off a counter made it a 2-0 game. In the 29th minute, a counterattack led to a 1v1 move and a goal to put the Dragons in a 3-0 deficit. The Dragons' best attacks in the first half came in the 18th minute. The ball came to Cohen Wintin off a corner, but his shot went just wide. Not long after, Elliott Canova hit a shot off a drop ball that forced a diving save. The rebound came to Lennon Pottle, but his shot just missed the far post. Alex Richwine got the Dragons on the board in the 47th minute with a long-distance goal. He took a shot from 55 yards that bounced over the MV keeper's head and into the net. MV answered with a counterattack goal in the 54th minute. In the 58th minute, Danny Davis took a shot in the box that forced a diving save. Drew Potter had a defensive save off a corner kick, heading an airborne ball off of the line in the 65th minute to keep the deficit at three. The Dragons are now 4-3. They next play Sept. 6 at home against New Castle.
