The New Palestine girls basketball team allowed just six second-half points Thursday to pull away to a 60-22 victory over host Southport at the Southport Fieldhouse. Allie Blum outscored the entire Cardinals team, as she tallied 28 points to lead the way for the Dragons. The Dragons jumped out to a 13-4 lead after a quarter, as Blum scored seven points and Sadey Hughbanks hit back-to-back 3-pointers. Southport outscored the Dragons in the second quarter, as Blum scored six of the Dragons' 11 points to give NP the lead at 24-16 going into the break. The Dragons then broke the game open in the third quarter, scoring 26 points - equaling their output of each of the last two games - and allowing only five, building a 50-21 lead. Blum scored 12 points in the frame, while Kenna Tweedy hit two 3-pointers and Vivian Miller scored five points. The Dragons allowed just one point in the final quarter as they pulled away to the victory. Kylee Beranek's three-point play completed a nine-point game for her. Hughbanks and Tweedy tallied six points each. Miller scored five. Kendra Moore, Natalie Sevier and Mackenzie Hacker scored two points each. The victory was the Dragons' largest win margin since a 78-29 victory over Connersville Nov. 4, 2021. The 22 points were the fewest allowed since a 68-17 victory over Connersville Nov. 2, 2019. The Dragons are now 7-8 on the season. They next play Dec. 28 with a matinee against Franklin County.
