Swimmers sweep Shelbyville

The New Palestine swimming and diving teams swept host Shelbyville Tuesday, with the Dragons girls winning 119-46 and the boys winning 134-46. The Dragons girls won eight events and the boys 10. Winners for the Dragons girls were Chloe Siler in the 50 freestyle (25.90) and 100 freestyle (59.27), Isabelle Tull in diving (188.95), Sullie Leavell in the 100 butterfly (1:10.42) and Lillie Abernathy in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.97). Also winning were the 200 medley relay of Arianna Tull, Piper Schaefer, Isabelle Singer and Emily Appleby (2:20.86); the 200 free relay team of Abernathy, Appleby, Siler and Leavell (1:50.93) and the 400 free relay team of Siler, Cadyn Brown, Abernathy and Leavell (4:10.18). Finishing second were Abernathy in the 200 freestyle, Leavell in the 200 IM, Brown in the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Lauren Appleby in diving, Singer in the 100 butterfly, Schaefer in the 100 backstroke, Arianna Tull in the 100 breaststroke, and the 200 medley relay team of Halle Amones, Madi Bard, Brown and Heidi Bloomer. Winners for the Dragons boys were Blake Hurst in the 200 IM (2:20.30) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.43), Karter McNeil in the 200 freestyle (2:00.31), Cade Rodgers in diving (171.20), Dontae Thompson in the 100 freestyle (52.79), James Watson in the 500 freestyle (5:30.10) and Dawson Lynch in the 100 backstroke (59.57). Also winning were the 200 medley relay of Lynch, Aidan Kingery, Reese Cox and Liam Fuller (1:47.88); the 200 free relay team of Lynch, Kingery, Fuller and Thompson (1:37.66) and the 400 free relay team of Watson, Fuller, McNeil and Thompson (3:40.08). Finishing second were Luke Appleby in the 200 freestyle, Quinn Crawmer in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, Dontae Thompson in the 50 freestyle, Lynch in the 100 butterfly, McNeil in the 100 freestyle, the 200 medley relay team of Quinn Crawmer, Blake Hurst, James Watson and Luke Bartusek and the 200 free relay team of McNeil, Hurst, Cox and Appleby. The Dragons girls are now 9-1 on the season. The boys are 8-0. Both teams next compete in their respective Hoosier Heritage Conference meets at NPHS - the girls Jan. 6 and the boys Jan. 13.
