Girls basketball falls at Cathedral

The New Palestine girls basketball team dropped a 45-26 decision Thursday at Cathedral. The shorthanded Dragons had a strong first quarter, trailing 11-7 after eight minutes, as Allie Blum hit two shots and Sadey Hughbanks three free throws. But the Dragons were outscored 14-3 in the seconde quarter and trailed 25-10 at the break. Blum had a basket and Kylee Beranek a free throw. The Dragons were outscored 13-3 in the third quarter, with Blum hitting two free throws and Kendra Moore one, before tallying 13 points in the final frame. Blum scored eight points, while Kenna Tweedy hit a 3-pointer and Natalie Sevier a basket. Blum scored 16 points to lead the Dragons. Hughbanks, and Tweedy had three points each, Sevier scored two points, Moore and Beranek one each. The Dragons (6-7) are next in action Tuesday at No. 1 Lawrence Central.
