Swim teams sweep Trojans, Royals

The New Palestine swimming and diving teams both swept a triangular meet Thursday, as the Dragons boys beat New Castle 77-24 and Eastern Hancock 79-21. The Dragons girls beat New Castle 61-40 and Eastern Hancock 71-28. The boys won nine events and the girls six. The Dragons girls are now 8-1 on the season, while the boys are 7-0. Both teams are next in action Tuesday at Shelbyville. Winners for the Dragons girls were Chloe Siler in the 50 freestyle (25.97), Lauren Appleby in diving (148.10), Piper Schaefer in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.94), the 200 medley relay team of Rachel Hamilton, Lillie Abernathy, Sullie Leavell and Siler (2:01.71). the 200 free relay team of Abernathy, Siler, Leavell and Adrianna Huston (1:45.38) and the 400 free relay team of Siler, Hamilton, Leavell and Huston (3:58.71). Finishing second were Huston in the 200 freestyle, Katie Kelley in diving, Abernathy in the 100 butterfly and Leavell in the 100 freestyle, Individuals placing third were Emma Snyder in the 200 IM, Emily Appleby in the 50 freestyle, Hamilton in the 500 freestyle, Arianna Tull in the 100 backstroke and Madi Bard in the 100 breaststroke, Winners for the Dragons boys were Reese Cox in the 200 IM (2:15.93), Dontae Thompson in the 50 freestyle (23.71), Aidan Stephens in diving (177.30), James Watson in the 100 freestyle (53.22), Dawson Lynch in the 100 backstroke (59.02), Blake Hurst in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.45), the 200 medley relay team of Reese Cox, Blake Hurst, Dontae Thompson and Karter McNeil (1:50.17), the 200 free relay team of Watson, Liam Fuller, Aidan Kingery and Thompson (1:36.86) and the 400 free relay team of Ashton Turner, Kingery, McNeil and Thompson (3:35.89). Finishing second were Lynch in the 200 freestyle, Turner in the 50 freestyle, Cade Rodgers in diving, Cox in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 free relay team of Lynch, Hurst, Cox and Turner. Individuals finishing third were Jake Myers in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, Watson in the 200 freestyle, Fuller in the 100 freestyle and McNeil in the 500 freestyle,
