The New Palestine girls basketball team finishes a four-game homestand Tuesday against rival Mt. Vernon. TUESDAY: Mt. Both teams enter the contest looking to move up in the HHC standings. The Dragons trail the all-time series 48-18. They have met twice in five of the last six seasons. MV won 50-36 in the sectional and 54-28 in the regular season last year. This game concludes a four-game homestand an a run of five consecutive conference games for the Dragons. Thursday, The Dragons and Irish meet for the fourth consecutive season. NP has dropped all three meetings, including a 55-31 decision at home last year. DRAGONS NOTES The Dragons enter the week having split two conference games last week, beating Shelbyville 56-49 before falling in overtime to Greenfield-Central. Sophomore Kenna Tweedy had a strong game against G-C, hitting 5-of-8 from the floor and scoring a career-high 12 points. Her previous career high was five. Senior Allie Blum reached 500 career points in Friday’s game against G-C. She had a strong all-around game with 19 points, eight rebounds and a career-high six assists. She led the team in all three categories. Sophomores Sadey Hughbanks and Natalie Sevier each had seven boards against G-C. Earlier in the week, the Dragons outscored Shelbyville 15-8 in the final quarter to break a 41-all deadlock. The Dragons shot a season-best 50% in the contest, hitting 22-of-44 from the floor. Hughbanks tallied a career-high 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting against Shelbyville. That came one game after she set a career high 11 rebounds on Dec. 2 against Delta. Senior Vivian Miller scored 10 points against Shelbyville and tallied a career-high eight assists. She also had six rebounds to lead the Dragons. Junior Kylee Beranek hit 4-of-5 from the floor and scored 10 points - one off her career high - in the victory over Shelbyville. At 4.7 apg, Miller leads the HHC in assists. At 18.8 ppg, Blum is currently second in the Hoosier Heritage Conference in scoring. Miller ranks 10th in the conference at 11.3 ppg. Blum also ranks third in steals (4.5 spg), with Miller seventh (2.7 spg). SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS MV split two games last week, beating Anderson 34-25 Tuesday before falling 41-39 to Yorktown Saturday. DePaul commit Ellery Minch leads MV with 13.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Junior Kanyonrae Kenny tallies 9.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. MV’s 4-7 start is its slowest start since also beginning 4-7 in the 2017-18 season. SCOUTING THE IRISH Cathedral went 1-2 in three games last week, falling 42-23 to Zionsville and 56-53 at Eastern Hancock, sandwiching a 51-32 victory over Guerin Catholic. Junior Jaeda Wilson leads the Irish, averaging 13.8 ppg. Senior Taylor Lewis adds 10.6 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. Cathedral’s 3-7 start is its slowest since starting with the same mark in 2018-19. LOOKING AHEAD The Dragons hit the road next week, visiting No. 1 Lawrence Central Tuesday and Southport Thursday.
