Boys swim wins East Central Relays; girls second

The New Palestine boys swimming and diving team won Saturday's East Central Relays championship, while the Dragons girls placed a close second. The Dragons boys tallied 80 points to win the eight-team event, beating Columbus North (62), East Central (52) and five other teams. The girls tallied 70 points to finish second to Columbus North (72). East Central was third with 68. The Dragons boys won four events. Quinn Crawmer, Karter McNeil, Hunter Chaffee and Luke Appleby won the 100 free relay in 49:60. Ashton Turner, Liam Fuller, Dontae Thompson and James Watson won the 375 crescendo relay in 3:28.33. Watson, Turner, Fuller and Thompson won the 200 free relay in 1:37.14. Reese Cox, Blake Hurst and Dawson Lynch won the 150 backstroke relay in 1:21.86. The Dragons also had five second-place finishes. Blake Hurst, Aidan Kingery, Jake Myers and Fuller placed second in the 200 medley relay. Cox, Kingery and Myers were runners-up in the 400 medley relay. Appleby and McNeil were second in the 100 free relay. Lynch, Myers and Appleby finished second in the 150 butterfly relay, while Kingery, Cox and Hurst were runners-up in the 150 breaststroke relay. The Dragons girls won three events. Lillie Abernathy, Chloe Siler and Sullie Leavell won the 150 butterfly relay in 1:25.86. Siler, Rachel Hamilton, Adrianna Huston and Leavell won the 200 free relay in 1:47.31. Leavell, Abernathy, Siler and Huston won the 400 free relay in 3:55.09. Hanna Stone, Cadyn Brown, Heidi Bloomer and Emily Appleby were second in the 100 free relay. Arianna Tull, Madi Bard, Isabelle Singer and Appleby were third in the 200 medley relay. Abernathy, Emma Snyder and Hamilton were third in the 400 medley relay. Hanna Stone, Appleby, Brown and Ireland Armstrong were third in the 375 crescendo relay. Bard, Piper Schaefer and Stone finished third in the 150 breaststroke relay. The Dragons are next in action Tuesday at home against Pendleton Heights.
