Boys basketball romps in home opener

The New Palestine boys basketball team jumped out to an early double-digit lead and never looked back Saturday, beating Rushville 70-32 in the Dragons' home opener. The Dragons jumped out to a 20-8 lead after a quarter and extended it to 39-16 at halftime, then kept extending it to trigger the running clock in the second half. Eight Dragons scored in the contest, led by Julius Gizzi, who tallied 20 points. Moses Haynes added 12 points. Evan Darrah scored nine off the bench. Austin McMahan scored eight, Keagan Harrison seven, Brady Armstrong and Ben Slagley six each and Rigg Mahurin two. The Dragons (2-0) next play Friday at home against Greenfield-Central. The Dragons won the JV game 42-29.
