Girls basketball wins thriller in HHC opener

The New Palestine girls basketball team rallied from a six-point deficit in the final minute Tuesday to beat host New Castle 42-40. Vivian Miller hit the game-winning basket in the closing seconds and Allie Blum sealed the victory with a steal. Miller hit two baskets in the comeback, while Blum was 6-for-6 from the line in the fourth quarter. The Dragons jumped out to an 8-1 lead after quarter, with Blum scoring all of the Dragons' points. NC tied the game at 14 going into halftime. In the third, the Dragons built a slim 28-26 lead, with Miller and Sadey Hughbanks each hitting two shots in the frame. Blum led the Dragons with 18 points. Miller added eight second-half points. Hughbanks scored seven, with five coming in the second half. Natalie Sevier scored three points. Kenna Tweedy, Kylee Beranek and Kendra Moore scored two points each. The Dragons (3-5, 1-0 HHC) are next in action Saturday at home against Delta.
