The New Palestine boys soccer team won its third straight match Thursday - all on the road - beating host Franklin Central 2-0. Elliott Canova tallied a goal and an assist, while Cole Christopher scored the game's first goal. Blake Bobrow had his second clean sheet of the season. In a hard-fought, largely defensive contest, the Flashes had an early chance off a corner kick, when a far-post cross dropped to a Franklin Central player, but Bobrow dove to stop a contested shot in the six-yard box. The Dragons drew first blood in the 18th minute. Canova dribbled through the middle and fed Christopher at the top left corner of the box, who beat the Flashes' keeper far post for a goal, putting the Dragons up 1-0. The Dragons continued to threaten, but broke through by forcing a Flashes mistake in the 68th minute. An alert Canova read the Flashes trying to pass the ball back to their keeper. He intercepted the pass and hit a shot past the drawn-out goalkeeper into the center of the net to extend the lead to 2-0. The Dragons saw out the game, with Bobrow smothering a free kick in the 75th minute to snuff out FC's last solid chance. The Dragons are now 4-1 on the season. They next play Saturday morning at Lawrence Central with an 11:30 a.m. JV kickoff, followed by the varsity at 1 p.m. The Dragons dropped the JV game 4-0.
