DeLois, Wagner-Gilbert win titles at Ben Davis

New Palestine wrestlers Sydney DeLois and June Wagner-Gilbert each won individual titles at Saturday's Ben Davis girls wrestling invitational. DeLois won the title at 125, while Wagner-Gilbert won the title at 135. DeLois advanced to the finals with three falls - a 1:44 pin of Noblesville's Tahira Gibson, a 1:48 pin of Sullivan's Rachel Ramirez and a 2:40 pin of Franklin Central's Jenna Thompson. In the championship match, she defeated NorthWood's Naima Ghaffar 11-4. At 135, Wagner-Gilbert advanced to the finals with two pins - defeating Victory College Prpe's Ash Page in 1:17 and Franklin Central's Dayonna Dyson in 3:55. In the championship match, she faced teammated Jillian Champ and won by fall in 36 seconds. Champ was the runner-up at 135, advancing to the final match with two first-period falls. Also placing was Ezra Wagner at 130, who finished third. She advanced to the semifinal with a first-period fall, then was pinned in the semifinal round, but then posted two falls in the wrestlebacks and the third-place match to go 3-1 on the day. At 155, Ella Morris was fourth. She lost her first match, but then wrestled back to the third-place match with three falls. She lost by fall in the third-place match to go 3-2 on the day. At 125, Olivia Lemus did not place, but went 3-2 on the day. Elizabeth Champ went 2-2 at 155 and Julia Champ 2-2 at 170. The Dragons finished second out of 24 teams at the invitational, tallying 140 team points. Franklin Central won witih 170. The Dragons finished ahead of Warren Central (125), Jay County (115.5), North Montgomery (98) and the rest of the field. The Dragons are next in action Saturday at The Gobbler invitational at Southport.
