Girls swim sweeps opener

The New Palestine girls swimming and diving team swept its opener Thursday, beating Roncalli 72-30 and Greenwood 53-48 in a triangular meet. The Dragons had a pair of 1-2 finishes. Lauren Appleby won the diving competition (135.75), with Katie Kelley finishing second. In the 100 butterfly, Lillie Abernathy won in 1:07.28, with Rachel Hamilton finishing second. Other winners for the Dragons were Sullie Leavell in the 50 freestyle (26.94) and Chloe Siler in the 100 freestyle (59.55). Finishing second were Ireland Armstrong in the 200 freestyle, Emma Snyder in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, Abernaty in the 100 breaststroke and all three relays. Hamilton, Abernathy, Leavell and Adrianna Huston were runners-up in the the 200 medley relay. he 200 free relay of Hanna Stone, Armstrong, Hamilton and Siler and the 400 free relay of Armstrong, Stone, Snyder and Siler all finished second. In addition, Isabelle Singer was third in the 200 IM. The Dragons (2-0) are next in action Tuesday at home against Cathedral.
