Girls basketball wins big at Greenwood

Allie Blum tied her career high with 23 points and Sadey Hughbanks added 10 Wednesday as the New Palestine girls basketball team rolled to a 54-38 victory at Greenwood. The Dragons improved to 2-1 after their second straight double-digit victory. The Dragons clamped down defensively after falling behind 17-12 after a quarter, allowing the hosts four 3-pointers. Blum scored seven points in the frame and Hughbanks added five. They combined to go 6-of-8 from the line in the opening quarter. The Dragons took the lead, outscoring Greenwood 18-7 in the second quarter to go up 30-24 at the half. Kenna Tweedy hit a 3-pointer to open the quarter and scored seven points in the frame. Kylee Beranek added six points off the bench, including a 3-pointer. The Dragons seized control in the third, outscoring Greenwood 15-6. Hughbanks got the quarter started, then Blum hit a basket and a 3-pointer. Blum added three more free throws in the frame to score eight points in the quarter. Kendra Moore also hit a triple in the frame and Hughbanks hit two shots. In the final quarter, the Dragons saw out the victory as Blum hit four free throws and Allyson White added two baskets off the bench. Blum's 23 points tied her career high, which she set Saturday in a victory at Batesville. Hughbanks was also in double figures for the second straight game. In addition, Tweedy scored seven points, Beranek six, White and Moore four each. The Dragons (2-1) next play Nov. 15 at home against Franklin Central.
