New Palestine High School

The New Palestine cross country teams both swept Saturday's Golden Bear Invitational at Shelbyville's Blue River Park, with both the boys and girls teams winning titles. The Dragons boys won with 51 places, beating Herron (84), Western (111) and Cascade (115) in the 11-team event. Mike Bauer won the individual title for the Dragons boys, running the 5K course in 16:02.2. Carson Cooper was eighth (17:07.3), Gabe Silvey ninth (17:21.2), Micah Jones 13th (17:43.2) and Cody Lowe 20th (17:59.1). The Dragons girls won with 28 places, beating Cathedral (51), Hamilton Heights (80) and three other teams. The Dragons had all five placers in the top 10. Hailey Pardieck was second in 19:06.3. Elena Daugherty finished third (19:47.5). Adi Smith was sixth (20:52.3), Gwen Melby eighth (21:09.7) and Willa Novotny ninth (21:14.5). The Dragons next compete Sept. 26 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference meet at Mt. Vernon.
