The New Palestine football team was dominant Friday night, as the Dragons scored on their first three possessions and had a suffocating defensive performance in a 49-0 victory at Mt. Vernon. The 68th edition of the rivalry went as many of the recent meetings have - a lopsided Dragons win in which NP took command from the opening kickoff. The Dragons amassed 570 yards of total offense, scored on seven of their nine possessions, and held MV to five total first downs for the game. Junior running back Logan Parks again had a monster game, with 263 yards on 25 carries and four touchdowns, his second straight game over 250 yards. Rhys Ragan was 15-of-17 passing for 193 yards. Mason Oglesby had 90 receiving yards on nine catches. The Red Rage got in on the action, too, as Xavier Harmon and Andrew Davis picked off Marauder passes. The Dragons held on MV's first drive, forcing a turnover on downs at the NP 25 after the Marauders had moved the ball effectively. They quickly went to work, doing much of the damage on the ground. Parks carried for 16 and 31 yards on his first two carries to move NP to the MV 20, and then followed with a 19-yard run. After a penalty, he finished the drive with a 5-yard scamper. The Dragons quickly got the ball back, as Mason Oglesby stuffed MV quarterback Mason Meyer on a 4th-and-1 sneak, and on the next play, Ragan found Ryder Gardner open for a 40-yard TD, giving the Dragons a 14-0 lead with their second score in 57 seconds. Again, the Dragons forced a three-and-out, and again, they punched it into the end zone, overcoming multiple holding penalties on to drive 72 yards and score on Parks' second TD of the day. After the teams traded interceptions and punts, the Dragons took over with 1:57 left at the MV 45. However, a sack put them back in their own territory. They looked content to run out the clock, but on third-and-18, Ragan found Oglesby over the middle for a 27-yard gain to the MV 26. He hit Cael Butler on a 10-yard out route to put the ball on the 16 with 11 seconds left. Ragan then scrambled and dashed into the end zone, finding paydirt with three seconds left in the half and giving the Dragons a 28-0 lead. Parks had 167 first-half yards. He quickly went over 200 in the second half, scampering for 17 and 19 yards on his first two carries and finishing a 67-yard drive with a 3-yard TD, triggering the running clock. An INT by Davis on MV's next possession set up a quick drive that ended with a 9-yard TD by Parks. In the fourth quarter, the Dragons second unit drove 97 yards in 14 plays, with Dylan Turk, Evan Stickford and Deakin Gibson all sharing carries. Stickford finished it with a short TD run to set the final margin. With 90 yards, Oglesby moved to 1,090 career receiving yards and into 10th place on the NPHS all-time list, passing Keith Roseman and Todd Yoder during the game. He also has 90 catches, passing both Kyler Kropp and Isaiah Thacker on the career receptions chart and moving into fourth place.
