CC teams advance seven to regional

The New Palestine cross country teams advanced seven individuals from Saturday's Mt. Vernon sectional. The Dragons girls finished sixth out of eight complete teams and advanced four of their seven runners to next week's regional at Shelbyville. The top five teams and top 15 individuals from non-advancing teams move on. The Dragons tallied 140 places. Franklin Central (24), Mt. Vernon (68), Cathedral (91), Greenfield-Central (111) and Lawrence North (119) took the top five spots. Courtney Study led the Dragons with an 11th-place finish (20:12). Amelia Stone finished 21st (20:54), Addison Uhl 30th (21:31) and Cami Massari 36th (22:03). All four will advance to the regional. Heidi Bloomer finished 46th (23:03). The Dragons boys finished seventh of 11 teams with 188 places. Franklin Central (38), Greenfield-Central (60), Mt. Vernon (62), Lawrence North (91) and Cathedral (155) took the top five spots. Jake Cooper finished 24th to lead the Dragons (17:13). Gavin Smith was 33rd (17:53) and Jake Collins 43rd (18:15). All three will advance to regional. Ryan Cain was 50th (19:13) and Charlie Rigsbee 59th (20:00). The Dragons' advancing individuals will compete in next week's regional at Blue River Park in Shelbyville, with the boys race beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by the girls.
