New Palestine junior Hailey Pardieck won the individual title in the elite race at Saturday's Marion Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan University. In one of the biggest and most prestigious regular-season meets in the state, Pardieck ran the 5K race in 18:42.3, winning by 12 seconds. She helped lead the Dragons to a fifth-place finish in the elite division, which featured seven full teams. The Dragons tallied 108 places. Elena Daugherty was 20th (20:16.0), Adi Smith 25th (20:46.5), Brynn Richey was 31st (21:11.1) and Willa Novotny 39th (21:17.6). Carroll (Allen) won with 53 places, beating Fort Wayne Dwenger by eight. In the boys race, Mike Bauer ran as an individual in the elite race and finished seventh in 16:01.2. The Dragons ran in the large-school division and finished third with 86 places, four back of second-place Leo (82). Mt. Vernon won with 54. For the Dragons, Carson Cooper was sixth in 17.29.0, and Gabe Silvey seventh in 17:35.0. Cody Lowe was 19th (18:05.7), Micah Jones 22nd (18:17.3) and Nick Holland 32nd (18:43.3). The Dragons are next in action Sept. 12 at the Whiteland Invitational.
