The New Palestine girls cross country team won Saturday's Hancock County championship at Mt. Vernon, while also sweeping the individual titles. Hailey Pardieck led the Dragons to the title with a time of 18:41.3, leading four Dragons in the top 10. In the boys race, Mike Bauer won the county title with a time of 15:39.0, breaking a 28-year-old school record that had been held by Sean Branch. Elena Daugherty was fifth (20:04.4), Adi Smith sixth (20:09.3) and Willa Novotny 10th (20:46.5) to finish as All-County runners. Claire Blum finished 12th (21:19.9). The Dragons tallied 32 places and beat Greenfield-Central (36) by four places. Mt. Vernon scored 64, while Eastern Hancock had an incomplete team. In the boys meet, the Dragons had three runners in the top eight. In addition to the county champion Bauer, Carson Cooper was seventh (16:58.4) and Gabe Silvey eighth (17:07.5). Zion Koch placed 17th (17:39.8) and Micah Jones 19th (17:50.2). The Dragons finished second with 52 places. G-C won with 23. The Dragons were one place ahead of MV (53), while EH tallied 120 to finish fourth. The county meet was run alongside - and scored separately from - the Mt. Vernon Invitational. The Dragons girls scored 56 points and finished second to Whiteland (29), but ahead of G-C (64), Cathedral (89), Mt. Vernon (121) and Morristown (177). Pardieck was second, Daugherty ninth, Smith 10th, Novotny 16th and Blum 22nd. The Dragons boys tied MV for second with 67 places, but were placed third on the sixth runner's place. G-C won with 34. NP finished ahead of Whiteland (87), Lapel (149), Cathedral (160), Blackford (188) and Eastern Hancock (249) in the eight-team meet. Bauer was third, Cooper ninth, Silvey 10th, Koch 21st and Jones 24th.
