New Palestine High School

The New Palestine girls soccer team won its sectional opener Tuesday, beating host Shelbyville 3-2. The Dragons are now 10-6-1 on the season headed into Thursday's 5 p.m. semifinal against No. 8 East Central. The Dragons surrendered an early goal, but got the equalizer in the seventh minute as Tylar Whitaker scored. Rylee Hurst put the Dragons up 2-1 in the 29th minute with a goal. In the second half, freshman Hannah Sund extended the lead in the 59th minute. Shelbyville scored a late goal in the 78th minute, but the Dragons were able to hold on for the victory.
