Big comeback carries volleyball to Southport Invitational title

The New Palestine volleyball team posted an incredible comeback in the championship match of Saturday's Southport Invitational. The Dragons went overtime twice to win 18-25, 26-24, 16-14 to claim the title. After dropping the first set, the Dragons trailed 22-11 in the second set before mounting a rally to win the second set, then pulled out a third set. Kennedy Armstrong had 11 digs and 13 assists. Emmi Robinson had nine digs and Beth Comer seven to lead the Dragons on defense. Adelynn Crispin had 11 kills, while Elena Cook tallied nine. Brileigh Tincher also came in at setter and had four assists and an ace. The Dragons got to the title match by winning their two pool matches. They beat Whiteland 25-16, 25-12. Caylee Brown tallied nine kills. Crispin had eight kills and six digs. Armstrong tallied 18 assists and five digs. Robinson had five aces and five digs. They also beat Scecina 25-19, 26-24. Crispin had nine kills and five digs. Cara Steele tallied five kills. Armstrong and Kelly Sevier had 10 assists each. Robinson had seven digs. Cook tallied four blocks. The Dragons are now 7-0 on the season. They next play Monday at home against Eastern Hancock.
