Trio wins titles as girls track finishes as sectional runner-up

Abby Journay and Hailey Pardieck each won two sectional titles and Cadyn Brown won another, leading the New Palestine girls track and field team to a runner-up finish in Wednesday's Greenfield-Central sectional. Journay won the sectional championship in the long jump and 200. Pardieck swept the 1600 and 3200. Brown was the discus sectional champion. In the long jump, Journay left 17-0.25. She won the 200 in 25.77. She also finished third in the high jump (5-0), advancing to regional in all three events. Pardieck ran 5:01.25 in the 1600 and 11:12.27 in the 3200. Brown had a discus throw of 116-8. Also advancing to the regional were Savannah Baird, who tied for second in the pole vault with a height of 9-0, and the 4x400 relay of Abby Journay, Elena Daugherty, Olivia Weaver and Bre Journay, which finished third in 4:09.03. Placing fourth were Taylor Burke in the 100 hurdles (16.82), the 4x800 relay of Adi Smith, Weaver, Taylor Stone and Daugherty (10:01.51), and the 4x100 relay of Cayanna Brown, Caylee Brown, Marly Turso and Addison Lindell (51.26). Finishing fifth were Lillie Abernathy in shot put (33-6), Turso in the 200 (28.39) and Caylee Brown in the 100 hurdles (17.02). Finishing sixth were Cara Foster in discus (99-0), Bre Journay in the 400 (1:04.80), Justice Tweedy in the 300 hurdles (52.16), Smith in the 3200 (12:07.73) and Daugherty in the 1600 (5:27.59). Finishing seventh were Jozlynn Hart in pole vault (7-0), Caylee Brown in the 300 hurdles (52.82) and Olivia Weaver in the 800 (2:29.11). Cayanna Brown was seventh (13.47) and Lindell eighth (13.66) in the 100. Lauren Purkey was eighth in the 400 (1:05.76). The regional will be May 26 at Greenfield-Central.
