Golf headed to State Finals

The New Palestine girls golf team punched its ticket to the IHSAA State Finals Saturday, shooting a season-best 18-hole score of 345 to finish third at the regional at The Edge Golf Club in Anderson. Lauren Deering shot 78 to lead the Dragons, finishing ninth overall in a field of 85 golfers. Katie Kelley added an 85, Lily Kirchner a 90 and Hanna Beller 92. Lauren Appleby's 99 was the fifth score. Hamilton Southeastern won the regional with a 313, with Noblesville shooting 314. The Dragons finished 12 strokes ahead of fourth-place Union County to earn a State Finals berth. The State Finals will be held Sept. 29-30 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.
