Elliott Canova's two-goal game Saturday led the New Palestine boys soccer team to a 2-1 victory over host Warren Central. Canova's first goal came in the 29th minute, as he was tripped while trying to make a turn in the penalty area. He buried the ensuing penalty kick to put the Dragons up 1-0. Shortly after hafltime, the Dragons extended the lead in the 43rd minute. Canova won a corner on an attack. Brendan Tanksley's corner kick came to the near side of the box, where Canova stepped into the ball and sent a one-touch rocket into the back of the net to put the Dragons up 2-0. The Dragons had a number of other chances - as Paxton Holmes had a redirection of a corner kick early in the game that forced a strong save. Lennon Pottle had a look from the top of the six-yard box in the 21st minute but was denied by a diving save. Dragons goalkeeper Blake Bobrow made a couple of in-tight saves to keep it a 2-0 game. The Warriors scored a late goal off a counterattack in the 77th minute, but the Dragons were able to maintain possession for much of the final three minute and see out the victory. The Dragons improved to 2-1 on the season with the victory. They next play Tuesday at Whiteland, continuing a four-game road swing. The Dragons JV tied 0-0 and is now 2-0-1 on the season. Jake Wells and Cody Marino shared the clean sheet.
