Holmes wins two titles as boys track finishes third

Senior Paxton Holmes set Hoosier Heritage Conference records in both hurdles races Thursday, helping lead the New Palestine boys track and field team to a third-place finish in the HHC meet at Mt. Vernon. Greenfield-Central (133) won, with Mt. Vernon (122) finishing second. The Dragons scored 85 points and finished ahead of Delta (74.5), Yorktown (72), Pendleton Heights (71), New Castle (37.5) and Shelbyville (29). Holmes won the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.53 seconds, setting both the school and HHC records. He also won the 300 hurdles in 40.97 seconds, leading a 1-2 finish with Will Bardonner (41.39). Bardonner also finished sixth in the 110 hurdles (16.39). Holmes was also second in the long jump (20-3.5). Mike Bauer was second in the 3200 (9:29.72). Will Worth placed second in pole vault (12-6). Bryce Neuner was sixth in the 200 (23.36) and seventh in the 100 (11.37). Zane Smith finished sixth in the 400 (52.87). Colin Whetsel was sixth in shot put (41-11.5). The 4x100 relay of Holmes, Bardonner, Tyler Graves and Neuner finished second (43.44) by a half-second. The 4x800 relay of Carson Cooper, Nick Holland, J.T. Koch and Zion Koch was third (8:12.10). The 4x400 relay of Joe Bauer, Zane Smith, Zaven Rodriguez and Bardonner was fourth (3:30.78). The Dragons next compete May 21 in the sectional at Greenfield-Central.
