The New Palestine softball team won its fourth straight game Wednesday, beating visiting Fishers 4-1. Sadey Hughbanks pitched a complete-game victory, allowing two hits and one earned run over seven innings. She struck out six. The Dragons tallied seven hits. Morgan Hutchinson was 2-for-4 with a run. Payton Dye was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Saydie Miller was 1-for-3. Cara Steele and Lyndsay Goodin each went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Callie Cromwell was 1-for-2 with a run. The Dragons did all their damage in the first two innings. Hutchinson and Dye led off the first with back-to-back singles and moved into scoring position on Miller's groundout to the right side. Amber Hurt followed with another grounder to second base, bringing home a run. Steele then roped a double to right to give the Dragons a 2-0 lead. In the second, Cromwell led off with a walk. Goodin drove her home with a one-out double. After an error, Dye drove in a run with a groundout. Hughbanks retired the first 12 batters she faced. Fishers got a run in the fifth, loading the bases on two hits and a walk and scoring on a fielder's choice. With the bases loaded and one out, Hughbanks recorded a strikeout and a popout to escape the jam. The Dragons loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning but were unable to score. Hughbanks retired the next six batters to seal the victory. The Dragons are now 15-5 on the season. They next play Thursday at home against Pendleton Heights.
