Tennis splits day at Franklin

The New Palestine tennis team split two matches at Saturday's Franklin Invitational, both by 3-2 scores. The Dragons fell to Franklin in the opening match before beating Terre Haute South in the second round. Against THS, the Dragons had three straight-set wins. Arabella Deisher won 6-2, 6-0 and Riley Watts 6-0, 6-1 at singles. Alyssa Beller/Addison Ballard won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. Macy Thomas fell 6-2, 6-1 and Elliott Graham/Alyssa Appleby dropped a 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 decision. In the opening round against Franklin, the Dragons swept the doubles. Beller/Ballard won 6-1, 6-2. Graham/Appleby were trailing in the second set when Franklin took an injury default. At singles, Deisher fell 6-4, 6-1; while Watts dropped a 6-0, 7-5 decision and Thomas fell 6-3, 6-0. The Dragons are now 10-5 on the season. They next play Monday at home against Mt. Vernon.
