The New Palestine girls soccer team battled through 94 minutes of soccer Wednesday at Pendleton Heights, but fell 2-1 in a penalty-kick shootout. The Arabians outscored the Dragons 4-3 in the eight-round shootout. Tylar Whitaker, Allie Blum and Hannah Sund scored for the Dragons. The Dragons' back line of Allie Blum, Addison Lindell, Bethany Blachly and Vivian Miller kept the Arabians at bay all night and allowed only one clean chance on goal. The Dragons struck first when Miller finished a great corner from Whitaker. The Arabians then scored on a corner of their own to tie the game at 1-1 going into extra time. The Dragons came out hot in the first period of the 14-minute overtime and had two shots cleared off the goal line. As time wound down, the Dragons battled some tough physical play in the box that was allowed to play and the score remained 1-1 going into the shootout. The Dragons are now 7-5-1 on the season and 4-1 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference, remaining in a first-place tie for the league lead. They next play Saturday at home against Shelbyville as they look to secure the conference title. The Dragons' JV fell 1-0 on a goal in the closing seconds.
