Girls track finishes close second in county, boys third

The New Palestine girls track and field team had as tight of a finish as one could expect, but finished second in Wednesday's Hancock County meet by one point to Greenfield-Central, 77.5-76.5. The Dragons finished ahead of Mt. Vernon (68) and Eastern Hancock (20). The Dragons boys finished third with 54 points, behind MV (97) and G-C (83). EH had nine. Abby Journay was a triple county champion, winning the 100 (12.76), long jump (17-5.75) and high jump (5-3), Also winning county titles were Hailey Pardieck in the 1600 (5:03.55), Savannah Baird in pole vault (9-6) and Lillie Abernathy in shot put (34-1). Abernathy led a 1-2-3 finish, with Cadyn Brown second and Caylee Brown third. Finishing second were Journay in the 200, Pardieck in the 3200 and Cadyn Brown in discus. Placing third were Bre Journay in the 400, Adi Smith in the 3200 and Taylor Burke in the 100 hurdles. Winners for the Dragons boys were Mike Bauer in the 3200 (9:42.99) and Paxton Holmes in long jump (19-11.75) Holmes finished second in the 110 hurdles. Placing third were Zane Smith in the 400, Will Bardonner in the 110 hurdles, Holmes in the 300 hurdles and Will Worth in pole vault. The Dragons are next in action next week in the HHC meets at Mt. Vernon, with the girls competing Tuesday and the boys Thursday.
