The New Palestine girls soccer team scored two quick goals and controlled play Monday in a 5-1 senior night victory over Franklin. Prior to the game, the Dragons honored seniors Allie Blum, Vivian Hart, Vivian Miller, Dani Smith and Kansas Spicer. The Dragons dominated early and kept possession most of the evening, firing 29 shots. Tylar Whitaker scored her first goal of the night four minutes into the game on a shot from distance. A minute later, Miller dribbled up the wing and crossed the ball in to Spicer, who volleyed it into the net from close range to put the Dragons up 2-0. Whitaker scored again off a pass from Brooke Tanksley to end the half 3-0. In the second half, Nevaeh Gebhart started the scoring when Hannah Sund found her with a great pass. Blum made her way through the Franklin team and put one in the back of the net to finish off the scoring. Abby Lambdin earned the team's hard hat award for the Dragons during the Varsity game. The Dragons JV team played well tonight and ended in a 0-0 tie. Elizabeth Champ earned the hard hat during the JV game. The Hoosier Heritage Conference-leading Dragons (7-4-1, 4-0) will play at Pendleton Heights Wednesday night in an important conference contest as they look to retain their conference lead and possession of the Victory Bell trophy.
