Volleyball wins on Pink Night

The Dragons volleyball team improved to 16-3 on the season Monday with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-13 victory over Mooresville. The Dragons held their Dig Pink night and raised $360 for breast cancer research. Nyla Lewis led a balanced attack with 12 kills, three digs and a block. Rachel Burke added nine kills and four digs, while Josie Corbett had seven kills and four digs. Natalie Sevier added five kills and a block. Hayden Ramsey tallied three kills and two blocks. Sam Gooding had 33 assists and seven digs. Azure Flagle led the defense with 21 digs. Makaeli Johnson added nine digs and two aces, while Kyndra Monteith had seven digs. Bella Brownfield had six digs, four kills, five aces and two blocks. "The team came out strong and got early leads in each set," Dragons coach Kelli Gabehart said. "Sam set a very balanced offense with many players scoring tonight. Nyla had a great game. She was reading the court very well. Azure, Makaeli, and Kyndra were strong defensively tonight. We are looking forward to some practice time this week to prepare for a tough New Castle squad." The Dragons won the JV and freshman contests in two sets each.
