Boys soccer dominates Delta, moves to 6-0 in HHC

The New Palestine boys soccer team remained atop the Hoosier Heritage Conference standings Saturday with a 5-1 victory at Delta. The victory improves the Dragons' HHC record to 6-0. They are 8-5 overall. NP dominated the possession and chances throughout and took just five minutes to score, when Cole Christopher sent the ball toward the goalmouth, where Eli Martin won a duel with the goalkeeper and tapped it in before the Delta keeper could get to it. Elliott Canova won a penalty in the 19th minute, but it was stopped. However, the Dragons did extend the lead in teh 27th minute when Andon Colclazier played a deep free kick from along the touch line to the far post. Mark Everett kept the ball alive and it bounced to the goalmouth, where Kendall Steele got a toe on it in a scramble and poked it over the goal line. The lead remained 2-0 until hafltime. In the 55th minute, Canova won a ball into the offensive third and took a big hit, but played a through ball to Cohen Wintin for the finish to extend the lead to 3-0. Colclazier made it 4-0 in the 61st minute with a 25-yard blast through the goalkeeper on a buildup that started with a perfect long ball by Alex Richwine. Cole Christopher buried a penalty kick in the 67th minute after Paxton Holmes drew a foul in the box. Delta scored on a penalty in the 77th minute to break the shutout. There was no JV game. The Dragons next play Thursday at home against Carmel.
