Baseball falls to Louisville power

The New Palestine baseball team dropped a 6-1 decision Saturday afternoon to Louisville St. Xavier. St. X entered the game as the No. 2-ranked team in Kentucky per Prep Baseball Report. The Dragons fell to 7-5 on the season. Kingston Hedges' third-inning solo homer provided the Dragons' scoring on the day, as NP tallied six hits. St. X took a lead in the first on two hits, and used a double, single and RBI groundout to plate two more in the second to go up 3-0. The Dragons stranded baserunners in each of the first two, and had the leadoff man on in the third, but he was caught stealing second. With two outs, Hedges blasted a homer over the rightfield fence. Jacob Morris followed with a single and Liam Atkinson walked to continue the threat, but a strikeout ended the inning . The Tigers added two runs in the fifth on a walk, double and error, and made it 6-1 with a run in the sixth. Morris was 2-for-3 to lead the Dragons' offensive attack. Gavin Neal was 1-for-4. Brogan Reveles and Max Newkirk were both 1-for-3. Hedges was 1-for-2 with a homer. Alex Andrews scattered seven hits and four earned runs over six innings. He struck out eight. Neal struck out one in a scoreless seventh. The Dragons are next in action Monday at Knightstown.
