Baseball dominates Warriors

The New Palestine baseball team had a dominant performance Monday at Whiteland, beating the host Warriors 11-1. The Dragons jumped ahead 2-0 when they loaded the bases with none out in the second. Holden Hughes' fielders choice and a wild pitch brought home the two runs. Whiteland scored without a hit in the third, but the one-run lead was short-lived. The Dragons exploded for seven runs in the fourth to go ahead 9-1 and break the game open. They again loaded the bases with none out on two walks and a single by Eli Whiteside. Max Newkirk drove in a run, and an error on the play brought home another. Gavin Neal drove in the inning's third run with a sacrifice fly, but the ball was dropped by the centerfielder, allowing Neal to reach. A walk to Kingston Hedges loaded the bases. Newkirk scored on a wild pitch. Liam Atkinson followed iwth a two-run double. Marshall Giant's groundout plated another run. Another run came home in the sixth as Hedges and Jacob Morris led off with singles, putting runners on the corners. Atkinson's groundout plated a run. In the seventh, Colin Workman led off with a walk and scored on Newkirk's RBI grounder. Morris and Whiteside led the Dragons' 11-hit attack, each going 2-for-4. Atkinson was 1-for-4 with a double, a run and three RBI. Neal (1-4, R, RBI), Hedges (1-3, 2R), Giant (1-3, R, RBI), Mason Monnier (1-1, 2B, 2R), Brogan Reveles (1-1, R) and Newkirk (1-4, R, 2RBI) each had hits. Alex Andrews earned the win, pitching five innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs. He struck out five. Reveles finished the game off, striking out two in two shutout frames. The Dragons improved to 6-3 with their third straight victory. They begin a two-game conference series Tuesday at Mt. Vernon.
